Day 1: Colombo – Kandy
Arrive in Sri Lanka and meet your chauffeur guide for the transfer to Kandy. On arrival, you’ll enjoy the chance to take a tour of the city, which is now a World Heritage Site, and gain a feel for the city and its many attractions. That will include the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic before the day ends with a colourful performance of Kandyan dancing and drumming.
Day 2: Kandy – Dambulla – Sigiriya
Pay a visit to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens before leaving Kandy behind to travel to the city of Dambulla – stopping en-route to visit an exotic spice garden in Matale. Once in Dambulla, you’ll take a trip to the stunning Rock Temple; a World Heritage Site that is one of the most impressive cave temples to be found anywhere in the country. Home to more than 2000sqm of painted walls, the complex of caves contains numerous images of Buddha.
Day 3: Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa – Sigiriya
The day will start with a trip to the imposing Sigiriya Rock Fortress; which rises more than 200 metres from the surrounding jungle. Explore the moat, ramparts and extensive gardens before visiting the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. You’ll then head for Polonnaruwa – another World Heritage site – to visit more of Sri Lanka’s most famous attractions; including the ruins of the Royal Palace and King Parakramabahu’s statue.
Day 4: Sigiriya – Pinnawala
Departing Polonnaruwa, you’ll have chance to visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala; the highlight being the opportunity to see youngsters being bottle fed before the majestic animals head to a nearby river for their daily bath. You’ll then return to Colombo where you trip ends with transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
